ㄷ Batchim — the [t] Sound

This is the final boss of batchim. Seven different consonants (ㄷ, ㅌ, ㅅ, ㅆ, ㅈ, ㅊ, ㅎ) all become the same [t] sound in the final position. That means 맛 (taste), 꽃 (flower), and 옷 (clothes) all end with the exact same sound.

[t]

Final ㄷ, ㅌ, ㅅ, ㅆ, ㅈ, ㅊ, ㅎ all become [t]

How to Pronounce

Start like the t in "cat" but never release it. The tip of your tongue blocks the upper gum and stays.

Common Mistake

The most common mistake is pronouncing 꽃 as [kkochi] or [kko-cheu]. Final ㅊ is simply [t]: [kkot]. But when a vowel follows, the original sound comes back: 꽃이 is [kkochi].
